Providing evidence-based advice that combines practical maritime experience with data science technology.

As a Senior Maritime Consultant, you'll be at the forefront of innovative maritime risk management, shaping the future of the marine sector.
  • Impact Analysis: Evaluating how proposed developments (e.g., offshore wind farms) affect shipping and navigation.
  • Risk Assessments: Conducting thorough navigational risk assessments, engage with clients and stakeholders, and author insightful reports.
  • Project Management: Overseeing project quality, timelines, and costs, escalating risks when necessary.
  • Mentorship: Guiding junior staff and collaborate with mariners, harbor masters, and technical specialists.
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Safety Code Services: Provide UK Port Marine Safety Code services, including audits, risk assessments, and Designated Person services.
  • Safety Management: Develop and implement Marine Safety Management Systems.
  • Collaboration: Work with environmental and engineering teams to address navigation impacts and mitigations.
  • Data Analysis: Lead technical aspects of Navigation Risk Assessments, interpret vessel traffic data, and engage stakeholders.
  • Reporting: Author detailed reports and support tender submissions.
  • Business Development: Contribute to broader business development activities.
The role will initially be shaped around the areas in which you have most experience and skills, and gradually build out to develop your expertise across the services and sectors.  Appropriate training and development support will be provided as part of a tailored career progression plan, including membership and chartered status of a relevant professional institution should this be of interest.

Skills / Experience
Essential:
  • 5+ years in maritime consultancy, regulatory, or port environments.
  • Degree in science, engineering, geography, risk/mathematics, or related field.
  • Maritime background (e.g. mariner, harbor master, VTS).
  • Strong self-motivation, computer literacy, and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code and experience in Safety Management Systems and navigation risk assessments.
Desirable:
  • Experience as a harbor master in a large port environment.
  • Strong industry network and professional industry presense.
  • Project management experience.
