An exciting contract opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Systems Engineer with a proven background of Hybrid or EV Vehicle Systems Development. Ideally Automotive, Motorsport or Marine industry experience but other HV Systems Design domains considered.
The role covers Whole Vehicle Systems Design – HV Battery, Switchgear, Service Disconnects, Instruments, Power Bus and Control System Architecture.
Delivering technical content for projects in the areas of marine systems electrification and high-power battery systems.

The Role
An opportunity exists within the Controls Group Engineering Team for an Electrical Engineer with HV knowledge and experience to support and deliver on-going projects.
Job Duties:
Responsible for the electrical systems layout, specification and delivery of systems, sub-systems and whole boat electrical architecture with the Controls Team:
  • To work on the electrical integration and application of hybrid and electric systems from prototype through to production on marine systems and electric boat projects.
  • Perform detailed electrical design calculations for low voltage and high voltage battery and vehicle systems
  • Provide electrical design and integration knowledge and support to projects
  • Develop electrical architectures for bespoke marine systems and HV battery powertrains..
  • Select and specify electrical components suitable for projects.
  • Provide electrical knowledge and design integration support to the wider engineering teams internally.
  • Develop and expand product validation plans and specifications for electrical and battery systems.
  • To interface directly with our Engineering Team, Suppliers and Boat Builders on technical issues, at our base and when required, at client sites.
  • To provide technical guidance for the development and application of control system architecture, HV power and electric systems.
  • Familiar with HV AC and DC systems, CAN architecture and the methods to minimise or eliminate electrical noise and interference.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to agree the specification of purchased components, harness and wiring installation, and the delivery requirements for projects.
  • Work to industry standard safety and quality procedures and validation processes
  • Support the development of future products and services
  • Support business development activities and proposals with technical input
  • Be proactive, self-motivated, and demonstrate attention to detail in a design environment
The successful applicant will have a sound automotive, marine or motorsport engineering background, a number of years of experience of successfully delivering projects in a controls and electrical systems environment.
 
Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline (e.g. electrical and electronic engineering/mechanical engineering/physics/computer science/software engineering/maths/control engineering)
  • Good knowledge of hybrid and electric driveline architectures, components and systems integration.
  • Electrical design calculations.
  • Good understanding of the operating principles of motors, inverters, power converters, battery chargers and battery systems
  • Knowledge of designing high current and automotive high voltage ( up to 1000V ) power systems, (connectors, bus bars, cables, contactors & fusing)
  • Experience of electrical component integration (up to 1000V), design & development on low volume or high volume products, particularly HV battery, propulsion systems and sub systems in a tier 1 or OEM environment
  • Familiarity with functional safety concepts and industry tools such as DFMEA, FTA, Hazard Analysis
  • Strong teamwork, organisational, oral communication, and written communication skills
  • An understanding of project delivery within a systems engineering environment
  • Experience with Electronic design packages, atex installations. 
  • Big boats // ATEX explosive regulations on boats and the wider legislation
  • Vessel specific design upgrades
 
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
It would be beneficial, but not essential if the applicant had some experience or knowledge in the following fields:
  • Analytical approach to solving engineering issues in a high performance environment..
  • Fluent in circuit simulation and system modelling
  • Experience in testing high power components and systems.
  • Hands on experience of working live with Hazardous Voltages systems (>50V)
