About Us
Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC) is a premier members’ club with a proud sailing heritage and a strong sense of community. Our exceptional waterside location, extensive facilities, and high-calibre events programme make us a leading venue for sailing at every level—from grassroots to international regattas.
The Role
As General Manager, you’ll be the strategic and operational leader of the Club. You’ll oversee all aspects of its day-to-day running—marine, events, food and beverage, facilities, finance and member services—ensuring a seamless, high-quality experience for members and guests alike.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing clear leadership to a team of 20 permanent and 50+ seasonal staff
  • Working closely with the Commodore and Committees to deliver the Club’s strategic plan
  • Driving revenue growth through proactive marketing and year-round commercial development
  • Championing member engagement and service excellence across all areas
  • Overseeing budgets, compliance, safety standards, and estate management

What We’re Looking For
You’ll be a confident, proactive and diplomatic leader with:
  • Proven success in general management, ideally within sport, leisure, hospitality or marine settings
  • Strong operational, financial and team leadership skills
  • A hands-on approach with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Experience in service-focused environments with high member or guest expectations
  • A track record of empowering teams and driving performance
Knowledge of sailing and the wider marine industry is a real bonus—whether personal or professional. You’ll understand the rhythm of club life and the value of community.
Your Qualities
  • Positive, approachable, and a natural relationship builder
  • Calm, strategic, and solutions-oriented under pressure
  • Energetic, detail-conscious, and commercially minded
  • Adaptable with a can-do attitude—ready to lead by example and muck in when needed
