Marine Service Engineer

Marine Resources has en exciting opportunity for aService Engineer for a leading manufacturer of electrically actuated fin stabilizers, thrusters and rudder systems for the leisure marine industry.

My client specialises in the luxury medium to large yacht sector and have a well respected market position.

Based in Poole, they have grown tremendously over the past 4 years with delivery of systems to France, Poland, the Netherlands and the UK. They are the primary supplier of stabilising systems for Sunseeker’s newer and larger yachts including their 100 Yacht. To enhance our operations and in anticipation of further growth, they are looking to expand the UK based team with the addition of a Service Engineer to support their UK and Northern European based customers.

About The Role
The Service Engineer plays a key role. You will be the on-site advocate of the business in supporting their customers during the installation, commissioning, sea-trials, warranty issues and routine servicing phases.

Responsibilities:
• Be able to work independently with the remote support of the UK and Italian based teams
• Be comfortable travelling overseas which will require at times making travel arrangements alone.
• Will need at times to be available on short notice to travel possibly for several days and during unsociable working hours.
• Be communicative with the yacht’s owner and / or shipyard with regards the works.
• Complete reports in a timely fashion for both internal and external use.
• Documenting all service calls.
• Respecting the unique nature of a luxury yacht by maintaining the cleanliness of the
working environment and the fit and finish of other systems, hardware, etc.
• Interact in a professional and ethical manner with yacht owners, their representatives,
shipyard staff and other trades
• Be on call and work at times during unsocial hours and on short notice
• Respond to service calls that may include overseas travel and sometimes for an
extended period

Required Skills:
• A strong multi-disciplinary background (mechanical, electrical and electronics) with a bias towards electronics
• Competency with computer based diagnostics tools and software.
• Is comfortable navigating confined areas and being on a construction site.
• Is not susceptible to motion sickness
• Independent working skills and self-management.
• Self-motivated and able to prioritise tasks.
• A general knowledge of naval architecture and marine engineering gained either academically or vocationally is useful though not a requirement.
• May have to spend extended periods of time working overseas or from home and should be able to do so if required.
• Strong logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Italian, or foreign language skills are not a prerequisite for this role, though a command of other languages would be advantageous.

• You have a full and clean driver’s license and passport with authorization to live and work in the UK
• You can lift heavy items
• You are currently based in the southern part of the UK, ideally within an hour of Poole.
