About the Role
As a Naval Architect/Technical Project Manager, you will play a critical role in driving the successful delivery of new product development programmes. You will lead the technical design and development of a range of small craft, working closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure performance, cost, and production targets are met. Your expertise in naval architecture and marine systems will enable you to solve complex engineering challenges while managing resources, budgets, and project timelines.

Primary Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Leading the technical management of new product development programmes, reporting to both the Senior Programme Manager and the Design and Development Director.
  • Providing leadership and management to engineers working on development projects, ensuring alignment with project goals and technical requirements.
  • Overseeing platform design, covering key areas such as stability, structures, arrangements, and marine systems.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet performance and quality targets.
  • Managing project P&L, ensuring financial performance aligns with business objectives.
  • Coordinating with relevant regulatory bodies to secure design approvals and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Working closely with production teams to ensure design solutions are optimised for manufacturing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Developing and implementing technical solutions to address design challenges and improve overall vessel performance.

Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the working area is clean and safe in compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Ensure any equipment used is safe, within electrical test date, and that all guards and interlocks are working and in place.
  • Act safely and responsibly in line with company processes and health and safety procedures to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
  • Report any potential health and safety hazards or violations to your supervisor/line manager or directly to the QHSE Manager.
  • Ensure any PPE or workwear required or provided for the job is worn and checked regularly for wear, reporting when replacements are required.
Person Specification Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Proven experience leading interdisciplinary teams on small craft (<20m) design and manufacturing projects.
  • Strong understanding of naval architecture principles, including vessel stability, structural design, and marine systems.
  • Experience in profit and loss (P&L) project management, demonstrating the ability to deliver projects on budget and within defined financial targets.
  • Experience liaising with relevant regulatory bodies to secure design approvals and ensure compliance.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Experience working on the design of platforms for small batch series production.
  • Structural analysis and design, with a strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with marine systems design, including hydraulics, electrical, fire, and bilge systems.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (Siemens NX preferred) and other marine design tools.
  • Experience in configuration control and project management methodologies.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers to build a strong and capable team.
